The October Slump

No matter where you live or the kind of school you work at...there is something about October that puts educators across the nation in a funk. It is commonly known as the October Slump. It is the time of the year where administrators and teachers are being asked to complete a lot of tasks, and everyone is tired and overwhelmed. Not to mention, most schools go the entire month of October without a break.

So what can you do to “prepare” for the October Slump? Honestly, I am not sure if you can prepare for it but I think it is important to at least acknowledge it. It is important to know that you are not alone and there are educators across the country who are feeling the same way.

So pick up the phone, call a friend and schedule time to check-in. Maybe you just need some time to regroup and focus on getting through October. Maybe you just need to pause, watch a movie and have a glass of wine. Either way, you must keep doing the things you love and take some time to engage in self-care. Once October is over, you will be on your way to Thanksgiving and then a well deserved Winter break.
